Artist Statement
Martina Latimer’s practice embraces an intentional naivety, depicting the simple moments of connection that shape our lives.
Her work is informed by the philosophical writings of Martin Buber - particularly his concept of dialogue and the sacredness of the “I and Thou” relationship. These ideas resonate throughout her process: the slow act of seeing becomes a form of thinking, a quiet engagement with the world and its relationships.
Plants, painted on a large scale and in saturated colours, play a central role - both as subjects and as symbolic anchors. Superimposed with drawings of human interaction, these botanical forms ground the canvas, creating a space that is both calming and uplifting. Her paintings invite viewers into a contemplative space where connection, presence, and simplicity are held with care.
